Travel Bursaries

Travel bursaries are available to early career and student BIOCATNET members (i.e. students, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers). These are intended to fund essential travel and expenses to attend BIOCATNET events or other relevant conferences, workshops, events, or placements.

Eligible Costs & Reimbursement
BIOCATNET is able to reimburse eligible costs after receipt of a properly completed University of Manchester expenses claim form, which will be provided to the applicant once the travel has been completed. Eligible costs will be agreed in advance between the Network Managers and the applicant, but will usually not exceed £200.

Eligible costs must be incurred in the course of travel and expenditure for the reasons agreed by the Network Managers and should provide demonstrable value for money. Eligible costs include:

  • transport by standard class, unless evidence can be provided that the cost for travelling in first/premium class is equal to or lower than standard fares available for equivalent travel at that time;
  • taxi transfers;
  • subsistence, including for meals and refreshments (non-alcoholic beverages);
  • other reasonable incidental expenses
  • Competition Process
    BIOCATNET travel bursaries are available to Network Members throughout the lifetime of the Network. Download the application form here. The application form should be returned to the Network Manager via email with the subject line “Travel bursary application: [name of the applicant]”. Assessment of applications will be conducted by the BIOCATNET Network Managers.
